Joan Marie (Silvernail) Armstrong

Chenango Forks – Joan Marie (Silvernail) Armstrong, 91, of Chenango Forks, passed away on December 24, 2021, Christmas Eve, her favorite day of the year. It was then that she reunited her extended family for Christmas Eve celebrations. Now we will always be with her on this very special day. Joan was predeceased by her loving husband and best friend Dick in 2018 after 65 years of marriage; parents, Raymond and Clara Silvernail; in-laws, Joseph and Mary Armstrong; brothers-in-law, Barrie Sweet, Edward Dewar and Joseph Armstrong Jr. and recently sister, Carol Dewar. She is survived by her sisters, Jane Rae Sweet and Nancy Paige; brother-in-law, Bill Armstrong. Joan is also survived by her children to whom she devoted her life: Rick (Karen), Dan (girlfriend Chris), Tom (Andrea) and his daughter, Pat. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Rick, Kelly, Kirk, Traci, Tommy and Katherine; 11 great-great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren in addition to nieces, nephews and special friends. She was part of 5 living generations.

Joan graduated in 1949 from Johnson City High School and in 1953 from Wilson Hospital School of Nursing. She worked in a hospital, dental office, Tuttle’s Medical Lab and provided part-time office support at St. Rita Church in Chenango Forks and Hawk Engineering in her later years. His first mission in life was to devote himself to his family. Joan was also always ready to help a neighbor in need. On Wednesday mornings for decades, she invited her friends and neighbors for coffee and a chat. She loved to sew, knit and crochet, providing many beautiful items to her family and others over the years. The family would like to thank the healthcare professionals who have helped them with their health issues over the past few years, months and weeks. They are Dr Heather Rattenbury-Shaw, Wilson Hospital South Tower 5, Lourdes Hospital Seton 2 and Vestal Park Nursing Home. The family cannot rent or thank Reasons, Home of Open Hearts enough, a family-style home for seniors with needs. They have provided her with a home over the past 2 years, giving her a sense of belonging and purpose while meeting her desire to be independent as far as possible / practical and meeting all of life’s needs. for her and the other residents. The family will receive friends, relatives and acquaintances from 9:00 am to 10:00 am on Friday December 31st at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 1049 Chenango Street, Binghamton NY 13901. A funeral mass will follow at 10:00 am. The Church and Dioceses of Syracuse require face masks in the church. The funeral will be at a later date.
